Tajik PM participates in the 3rd Caspian Economic Forum

Asia-Plus

On Tuesday February 18, the Prime Minister of Tajikistan Qohir Rasoulzoda participated in the 3rd Caspian Economic Forum in Tehran.

Tajikistan’s state-run news agency Khovar reports that the country’s Prime Minister delivered the congratulatory message of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to the participants of the forum, expressing gratitude to the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran for inviting him as an honorary guest and for their warm and sincere hospitality.

It was emphasized that the Caspian Forum has created favorable conditions for the development of regional and international cooperation in various sectors of the economy and trade, including energy, transportation, and environmental protection.  The forum has become a platform for broad dialogue on diverse relationships and, in the context of global economic transformations, has gained special importance for sustainable development and strengthening integration, not only between the Caspian Sea countries but also among other regional states.

Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda expressed that today the Caspian region serves as one of the strategic centers facilitating the expansion of economic and trade cooperation between the countries of the region.

According to the Prime Minister, the trade turnover between Tajikistan and the countries of this region increased by nearly 20% in 2024 and made up more than 40% of the country’s total trade turnover.

Qohir Rasoulzoda, emphasizing the significant opportunities and resources for cooperation within the Caspian region, drew the attention of the forum participants to the development of the Caspian International Transport Corridor, which connects Central Asia with Europe.

It was noted that Tajikistan, with 98% of its electricity generated from renewable sources, is ready to export “green energy” to the countries of the Caspian region.  Focusing on the industrial sector, it was expressed with confidence that the implementation of joint projects in machine engineering, chemical industry, metallurgy, and agriculture will yield the desired results.  The Tajik side is ready to create favorable conditions for cooperation and investment for investors from the Caspian basin countries.

Further, the Prime Minister drew the attention of the attendees to environmental protection and Tajikistan's global initiative to declare 2025 as the "International Year for Glacier Preservation" through a UN General Assembly resolution, supported by its member states.  He invited the participants to attend the high-level international conference on glacier preservation, which will be held on May 29-30 this year in Dushanbe.
