The National Olympic Committees of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran have signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of sports.

The document was signed on April 6 in Dushanbe on the margins of the Regional Forum of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for West and Central Asia.

The document was reportedly inked by Zulfiqor Gulahmadzoda, the Deputy Head of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Tajikistan, and Mehdi Alinejad, the Secretary-General of Iran’s NOC.

An official source within Tajikistan’s NOC says the signing of  the cooperation document reflects the country’s efforts to boost cooperation, including in the field of sports.

Iran’s Nour News and Iran Press report that the document can help both Persian-culture countries improve the quality of sports activities.

The document reportedly emphasizes cooperation in the fields of coaching, refereeing, and joint sports camps.

In line with boosting Tehran-Dushanbe ties, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian traveled to Tajikistan in January 2025 and met his counterpart Emomali Rahmon.

Pezeshkian described the trip as a privileged relationship between the two countries and called for the development of cultural, scientific, economic, and security relations between the two nations. Emomali

Participants also discussed the region’s involvement in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
