The telecommunications industry in Tajikistan has generated more than 1.1 billion somonis (more than US$105 million) in revenue over the first three months of this year, marking a 4% () 140 million somonis increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to the Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan.
Private telecom operators have reportedly led the growth, reporting about 995 million somonis (nearly US$95 million) in income — a 6.1% rise year-on-year.
Meanwhile, revenues for the national operator Tajiktelecom, the state postal service Pochtai Tojik, and related agencies declined slightly by 1.6% to 62.6 million somonis.
As of April 1, the country had 8.3 million mobile subscribers, with 5.3 million classified as active users.
Although recent internet user data is unavailable, figures from January 1 indicate around 4.9 million internet users nationwide, of which 4.7 million accessed the internet via mobile devices.
The telecom sector remains one of the best-paying industries in Tajikistan, second only to banking sector. In March, average monthly salaries for telecom workers reached approximately 5,500 somonis (around US$525), nearly double the national average wage of 2,800 somonis.
According to the latest Speedtest Global Index, Tajikistan is the lowest ranked nation in Eurasia for fixed broadband connection speed, coming it at 117th out of 155 countries worldwide. Dushanbe did not even make the rankings for mobile connection speed.
Kyrgyzstan was 82nd in the Speedtest ranking for fixed broadband speed (with speed more than double that in Tajikistan), and 76th for mobile connectivity.
Kazakhstan ranked 78th.
According to the index, Uzbekistan had the fastest fixed broadband Internet connectivity in Central Asia, ranking 76th globally.
