President Rahmon extends condolences to Putin following deadly plane crash in Russia’s Far East

Date:

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has extended heartfelt condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin following the tragic crash of a passenger plane in Russia's Amur Region that claimed the lives of all on board.

In a telegram sent on July 24, Rahmon expressed deep sorrow over the incident, which occurred as the aircraft was attempting to land.

“We were deeply saddened by the news of the tragic death of passengers as a result of the crash of a passenger plane in the Amur Region of the Russian Federation,” the message read.  “We express our sincere condolences and sympathies to the families and relatives of the deceased.”

According to Russian media reports, the Antonov An-24 aircraft, which was carrying 48 passengers, crashed on July 23 while making a second attempt to land.  The plane, built in 1976 during the Soviet era, reportedly lost contact with air traffic control shortly before the crash.  A search helicopter later located the burning wreckage.

The Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the aircraft failed to land on its first approach and crashed during its second attempt. The incident has renewed scrutiny over the continued operation of aging Soviet-era planes in commercial aviation.
