The number of states and delegations that have confirmed their participation in the III CIS Games to be held in Azerbaijan has been announced. It is noteworthy that the number of athletes as a whole has decreased. Previously, 1,846 athletes were mentioned, now it has become known that 1,605 athletes and 2,330 representatives from 10 countries will take part in the competition.
Azerbaijan will be represented by 340 athletes, Russia – 262, Uzbekistan – 254, Belarus – 240, Kazakhstan – 147, Tajikistan – 144, Kyrgyzstan – 126, Turkmenistan – 48, Turkey – 38 and Kuwait – 6. At the same time, 202 Tajik athletes were previously scheduled to travel to Baku.
It should be noted that the III Games of the CIS countries will be held this year from September 28 to October 8 in seven cities of Azerbaijan – Ganja, Yevlakh, Mingachevir, Gabala, Shaki, Goygol and Khankendi. Competitions will be held in 23 sports at 12 venues.
Medals will be awarded at the 2025 CIS Games in such sports as judo, sambo, freestyle and Greco–Roman wrestling, rhythmic gymnastics, bullet and bench shooting, canoeing, rowing, taekwon–do, boxing, fencing, archery and others.
Tajikistan participated in the first Games of the CIS countries, which were held from September 4 to September 11, 2021 in Kazan. The country was represented by 80 athletes in 12 sports. They won 14 medals.
Silver was won by Nurlanbek Ermatov in boxing, Khurshedshoh Karimzoda and Khodjiakbar Toshmurodov in traditional kurash, Muhammad Ikromov and Mustafa Akhmedov in freestyle wrestling, Firuz Mirzorajabov in Greco–Roman wrestling and the only female medalist from Tajikistan Bibinashastamo Kholova in Thai boxing.
Bronze medals were awarded to Kurbonali Okhunov in traditional kurash, Firuzjon Ziyeev and Dilshod Kurbonov in belt wrestling, Jahonafruz Sulaimonov in sambo, Aminjon Mavlonov and Jamshed Hasanov in table tennis doubles, Aslam Azizov in Greco–Roman wrestling, and Amon Daminov in Thai boxing. Tajikistan took the 7th place in the overall standings.
At the II CIS Games, which were held in Minsk from August 4 to 14, 2023, Tajikistan took 8th place among 22 participating countries.
Tajik athletes won 13 medals: 1 gold, 3 silver and 9 bronze. Boxer Mehroj Sufidjonov won gold, silver medals were won by Loik Kutbiddinov (judo, 55 kg), Ubaidi Devashtich (sambo, 79 kg) and Anushervon Fozilov (boxing, 51 kg).
The bronze medalists were boxers Hangoma Isoeva (57 kg), Buzurgmehr Iksanov (54 kg), Rustam Ashurov (67 kg), Akmal Abduvaliev (86 kg), Ruslan Fedorin (92 kg), freestyle wrestlers Mustafa Akhmadov (70 kg), Somon Ikromov (79 kg), Greco–Roman wrestler Wrestler Aslam Azizov (60 kg) and judoka Madina Kurbonzoda (48 kg).
