The Government of Tajikistan has adopted an order regulating the hunting of certain species of animals listed in the country's Red Book for the period 2025-2026.
A document published on the legal information portal of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan defines hunting quotas, as well as deadlines and monitoring of their compliance.
According to the order, hunting of the following animals is allowed during the specified period:
– Marco Polo sheep (Ovis ammon polii) – 132 individuals;
– screw-horned markhor goat (Capra falconeri) – 20 individuals;
– Bukhara mountain sheep, or urial (Ovis aries bochariensis) – 18 individuals;
– Tianshan brown bear (Ursus arctos isabellinus) – 10 individuals (in cases of threat to citizens and causing damage to the population).
The deadlines for using quotas for hunting sheep, goats and urial are set from September 1, 2025 to March 1, 2026, and for the Tianshan brown bear – from September 1, 2025 to August 31, 2026.
The responsible authorities (the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan) are required to ensure the issuance of licenses and control over their compliance. The country's customs Service will control the import and export of wildlife on the basis of issued licenses.
In addition, the decree emphasized the need for joint efforts by government agencies, including the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the State Committee for National Security, the Forestry Agency, the National Academy of Sciences, as well as executive bodies in regions and autonomous regions to ensure the targeted use of established quotas.
The results of monitoring compliance with the rules and the use of quotas are planned to be summarized in March and September 2026, and this information will be provided to the government of the country.
The Government of Tajikistan sets quotas for the shooting of certain species of Red Book animals annually to regulate and preserve their populations.
