Damage caused to the Rudaki district by the latest earthquake amounts to some US$300,000

DUSHANBE, August 23, Asia-Plus — According to the preliminary data, a damage caused to the Rudaki district by the August 18 earthquake has amounted to more than 1 million Somonis (equivalent to some US$300,00), according to information from the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES). 

The MES source says the worst hit were the villages of Aliboy, Qizil Askar and Ilich in the Zaynab-Bibi jamoat in Rudaki.  

“71 residential buildings were destroyed completely and another 233 residential buildings were damaged partially by the tremor,” the source said, adding that 447 people were left homeless.  “A damage caused to the housing sector has amounted to more than 330,000 Somonis,” the MES source said.

The tremor also affected five schools, teachers’ training college, power-transmission line and other social infrastructure, the Asia-Plus interlocutor noted.   

At present a special commission is working in the site of the tremor to conduct a final analysis.
