DUSHANBE, January 14, 2013, Asia-Plus  — An enlarged meeting of the government to review the results of the past year’s work has opened in Dushanbe today morning.

Inaugurating the meeting, President Emomali Rahmon noted that the year of 2012 was a successful and beneficial year for Tajikistan “despite external cataclysms ad ongoing global economic crisis,” the president’s official website noted.

The president reportedly underlined the successes produced in spheres like investment, development of private sector, access to market of goods and services, and stability in the country’s macroeconomics.

The meeting participants include members of the government, senior representatives of president’s office, heads of ministries and enterprises, chairpersons of provinces, cities and districts, directors of investment project implementation units, heads of banks and universities.

Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov reported on socioeconomic achievements made in 2012.

He, in particular, noted that gross domestic product (GDP) rose 7.5 percent in a year to December 31, 2012, reaching 36.2 billion somoni.   The year-end inflation for 2012 stood at 6.4 percent.

The revenue part of the country’s budget for 2012 stood at 10 billion somoni, which was 1.4 percent, or 140 million somoni, more than it was originally planned, the prime minister noted.
