DUSHANBE, January 18, 2013, Asia-Plus  — Tajik law enforcement authorities are seriously concerned over the rise in juvenile delinquency in the country.

In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, Interior Minister, Ramazon Rahimov, revealed on January 18 that 635 juvenile crimes were reported in Tajikistan last year, which was 80 case more than in 2011.  According to him, the juvenile crime rates have increased in Dushanbe and nearby districts.

“Scuffles among school students and crimes using knifes committed by minors have become more frequent,” the minister said, noting that such trend should be studied by specialists.

According to him, the main factors leading to the rise in juvenile delinquency in Tajikistan are irresponsibility of parents and negative environment.

“Last year alone, administrative action was imposed on more than 3,000 parents,” Rahimov noted.
