DUSHANBE, February 4, 2013, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament has set up the Tajikistan-France Parliamentary Friendship Group.

A decision to set up this group was made at a February 4 meeting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon board (Shuro), presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov.

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says Ms. Marhabo Jabborova, chairperson of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth Policy heads the Tajikistan-France Parliamentary Friendship Group.

The group was reportedly formed to promote closer relations and understanding between deputies of the Majlisi Namoyandagon and members of the National Assembly of France (France’s lower chamber of parliament) by providing opportunities for the exchange of visits and information.

The board also considered a bill on cooperative societies, which had been prepared by the government.

On the proposal of Shukurjon Zuhurov, the bill was remitted to the Majlisi Namoyandagon Committee on Agriculture and Environmental Protection Issues as requiring improvement, Sultonov said.

The board also considered amendments offered to the country’s laws on tobacco restrictions and licensing separate types of activity in Tajikistan.

The majority of these issues have been tabled to the agenda of a regular sitting of the fourth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation that will take place in the middle of the next week, Sultonov added.
