DUSHANBE, October 20, 2008, Asia-Plus — Two handover ceremonies will be held in the administrative center of Tavildara district, Rasht Valley under the Grassroots and Human Security Projects of the Government of Japan today afternoon.

According to the Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe, the handover ceremony of the Japan-Tajikistan bilateral Grassroots Grant Project, “The Project for the Construction of a Dormitory at the Republican Boarding School for Orphans in Tavildara District,” will be held at Republican Boarding School for Orphans in the administrative center of Tavildara district today at 3:30 p.m.  The Government of Japan has granted US$ 83,899 for the project.

The Government of Japan supported to construct a new one-storied dormitory of 9 rooms to accommodate 50 children and their tutors with heating systems.  The Republican Boarding School is house for 120 orphaned children and children from the remote areas lacking schooling opportunities.  Before the completion of Japanese Grassroots Project, the school was under the harsh condition lacking sufficient educational and living space for children, for the reasons that there was only one building, used for both classroom and bedroom, in addition, the school has received more students because of the recent demands for schooling from the children and parents in the remote areas.

New dormitory is expected to secure the children’s educational and social environment, also expected to improve teachers’ better working environment.

The handover ceremony of the Japan-Tajikistan bilateral Grassroots Grant Project, “The Project for Preparation of the Agriculture Training and Promoting Center in Tavildara District,” will be held at Agriculture Training and Promoting Center in Tavildara District at 4:00 p.m.  The Government of Japan has granted US$ 90,070 for the project.

            Local and foreign specialists will conduct seminars and experiments at the Agriculture Training and Promoting Center to increase productivity with cost reduction based on variety of sustainable agricultural methods with new technology as well as traditional techniques used by farmers from Tajikistan and Japan.

Mr. Shunsuke Kondo, Second Secretary, the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe, will attend ceremonies.

Under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects, the Government of Japan has extended to the total grant of US$ 13,689,128 for 215 projects to support a wide range of humanitarian and development activities in the Republic of Tajikistan since 1996.
