DUSHANBE, March 7, 2013, Asia-Plus  — A ceremonial meeting dedicated to the Day of the Mother is currently being held at the Borbad State Complex in Dushanbe.

The meeting participants include female activists from all regions of the country, female employees of ministries and agencies, members of the government, representatives of the parliament and labor veterans.

During a congratulatory address to the meeting, President Emomali Rahmon has congratulated Tajik women on the Day of the Mother.

We will recall that International Women’s Day has been known in Tajikistan as the Day of the Mother since March 2009.  Congratulating women on March 8, 2009, President Emomali Rahmon said that International Women”s Day has only been celebrated on March 8 for about 100 years, but that ancient Aryan women — the ancestors of the Tajiks — had special days both for mothers, specifically, and for women in general.

The statistical data shows that as of January 1, 2012, more than one million women worked in all spheres of Tajikistan’s economy, including the private sector, which is 45 percent of the country’s working population.

Women mainly work in the education and health sectors.  More than 50,000 women work in the health sector and 52,000 women work in the education sector.

There are 15,000 managerial personnel in Tajikistan; 5,000 of them are women.

More than 1,000 women are engaged in scientific research work.
