DUSHANBE, June 6, 2013, Asia-Plus — The InterLegProm 2013 international light industry fair that was scheduled to open in Dushanbe on June 5 opened only on June 6.
We will recall that the opening of the exhibition was postponed because of halting of Iranian vehicles bound for Tajikistan on Uzbek territory.
Speaking at the fair inaugurating ceremony, Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan, Ali-Asghar Sherdoust, noted today that it doesn”t become a state to halt goods intended for an international exhibition in neighboring country and confiscate part of goods without serious reasons.
Iranian diplomat promised to find out the reason for halting of Iranian goods and confiscation of part of them by Uzbek customs officers through diplomatic channels.
He further stressed that solidarity of all countries participating at the fair and relevant bodies of Tajikistan in that issue was necessary.
“Iranian vehicles carrying goods of Iranian companies participating in an international light industry in Dushanbe have been held up in Uzbekistan for four days, and some goods have been damaged or confiscated without any logical reasons,” Mr. Mohammad Omrani, top manager of Iranian exhibition company, Rah-e Roshd-e Asiya, told Asia-Plus in an interview. “Therefore, some Iranian companies have failed to display their goods at the fair; they have just been showing only photos of their products to visitors,” he added.
Both domestic and foreign companies are participating in the event that runs through June 8. 56 Iranian companies as well as producers from Poland and China have displayed their achievement in light industry at the fair in Dushanbe.
The main objective of the fair is in attracting foreign investments to the country as well as promoting establishment of joint ventures and introduction of new technologies into the country’s light industry sector.
We will recall that Tajikistan began considering railroad links to bypass Uzbekistan in 2010 following halting of Tajikistan-bound freight cars on Uzbek territory. Construction of the rail link connecting Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan is one of such alternatives.
