KHOROG, September 29, 2008, Asia-Plus – Since the beginning of this year, 650 residents of Gorno Badakhshan have been sent to the Russian Federation for seasonal work through Badakhshonkhorijakor (state-controlled enterprise for external labor migration), Pamir Media has learned from the Bakhshonkhorijakor head Qamchibek Nasillobekov.
According to him, 650 local residents, including 200 women, have gone to Russia for seasonal work via his enterprise. “However, only 60 of them now work on the basis of contracts concluded between Badakhshonkhorijakor and Russian employers,” Nasillobekov said.
The majority of labor migrants from the region currently work in Moscow, Orienburg, Volgograd and Ryazan.
More than 24,000 residents of Gorno Badakhshan reportedly now work in the CIS states, primarily Russia. “The majority of them prefer to seek work in Russia independently because wages, offered by Russian employer, who conclude contracts with our enterprise, do not suit them,” Nasillobekov said.
