DUSHANBE, September 16, 2008, Asia-Plus — A series of roundtable meetings will be held in a number of regions of Tajikistan from September 18-26, according to the UDP Dushanbe Office.

The meetings will be held as part of the UNDP community development project “Local and Regional Capacity for Developing and Monitoring Development and Budgeting Programs,” which has been implemented in partnership with Tajikistan’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT) since April 2008,

The project provides for support for the public sector at local level for improvement of existing processes – working out and financing the development programs.   It also provides for involvement of local interested sides into the process of working out and implementing the development programs and thereby giving the government and civil society an opportunity to forecast development on the basis of concerted priorities.

Local and regional experts in the development programs and representatives of the public from 15 pilot districts, including Nourobod, Jirgatol, Tojikobod, Vahdat, Tursunzoda, Shuroobod, Baljuvon, Khovaling, Kulob, Rumi, Isfara, Konibodom, Ayni, Panjakent, and Kuhistoni Mastchoh, have been invited to participate at the meetings.
