DUSHANBE, October 30, 2013, Asia-Plus — Election observers from neighboring Uzbekistan will monitor the 2013 presidential election in Tajikistan that is scheduled for November 6.

“Fakhrididn Komilov, the member of Uzbekistan’s lower house (Legislative Chamber) of parliament, and Muhammadjon Khojayev, the member of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan, will observe the presidential election in Tajikistan.  They are members of the CIS election observation mission,” Abdumannon Dodoyev, the head of Tajikistan’s Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER)’s office, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

To-date, 493 international observers have been accredited and 80 representatives of foreign media will cover the presidential election process in Tajikistan, the CCER official added.    

In all, 700 international election observers are expected to monitor the 2013 presidential election in Tajikistan.

Six candidates have officially registered for the 2013 presidential election that will take place on November 6.  In addition to the incumbent President Emomali Rahmon, they are Tolibbek Bukhoriyev from the Agrarian Party; Olim Boboyev from the Party of Economic Reforms; Ismoil Talbakov from the Communist Party; Abduhalim Ghafforov from the Socialist Party; and Saidjaffar Ismonov from the Democratic Party.
