DUSHANBE, October 31, 2013, Asia-Plus — Fifteen officers from border control departments and check points participated in a three-day advanced training on document security that concluded in Dushanbe yesterday, according to the Delegation of the European union to Tajikistan.
Organized by the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA) and funded by the European Union, the training was implemented by UNDP, jointly with the International Center for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).
The European system of document control lays on the unified three level management of document control. Earlier in April, BOMCA Programme arranged the training for the second level of document control procedures based on the European three-level document control practice. Competent border control officers with relevant experience and knowledge of document security procedures (basic printing methods, safety features, profiling and other) were trained through the practical work with documents and real cases.
The advanced completed training was targeted for the third (advanced) level of document control procedure, the verification of the second line officers’ results. Participants together with two international trainers studied such topics, as conventional printing methods versus digital printing methods, use of biometrics in travel documents and profiling of passengers crossing the border.
A practical session with in depth check of documents was conducted at the end of the training course.
The overall objectives of BOMCA’s engagement in Central Asia are to help increase security in the Central Asian region, to contribute toward the facilitation of legitimate trade and transit, and to reduce the illicit movement of goods and people.
The BOMCA Programme is funded by the European Union and is implemented by UNDP with ICMPD as an implementing partner.
