DUSHANBE, November 1, 2013 Asia-Plus — Over the first half-year of 2013, physical entities have remitted 1.685 billion U.S. dollars from the Russian Federation to banks in Tajikistan, according to Russian central bank.
During the first quarter of this year, they have reportedly remitted 683 million USD to banks in Tajikistan while during the second quarter of 2013 they have remitted more than one billion USD to banks in Tajikistan, which is nearly 45 percent more than during the first quarter.
Over the first six months of last year, physical entities had reportedly remitted 1.671 billion USD to banks in Tajikistan, including 824 million USD remitted during the first quarter and 847 million USD remitted during the second quarter. In all, 3.5952 billion USD were remitted by physical entities from Russia to banks in Tajikistan in 2012.
Meantime, Russian central bank reports that 208 million USD have been remitted by physical entities from Tajikistan to the Russian Federation over the first six months of this year.
According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, physical entities have remitted 848.5 million USD to banks in Tajikistan over the first four months of this year, which is nearly 9.5 percent more than in the same period last year.
It should be noted that the Tajik government stopped publishing information on the volume of remittances sent to Tajikistan in May. In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, the head of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) Abdujabbor Shirinov noted in July this year that he”d rather not talk about migrants” funds because this issue may be politicized. Tajik central bank head insisted that not all cash transfers from individuals are labor migrant remittances, noting that some of the money could be returns from small businesses.
