The State Savings Bank of Tajikistan Amonatbonk has extended the process of re-registration of its bank cards until the end of June.

In January of this year, the bank began re-registration and re-identification of its cards, aiming to “ensure the financial security of its clients and transparency of transactions, as well as reduce the risk of fraud.”

An official source within Amonatbonk told Asia-Plus that about 60% of the bank cards have been re-registered, hence the registration period is extended until the end of the second quarter of the current year.

How to re-register a card?

According to information previously provided by Amonatbonk, each client receives an SMS message for registration, and if they do not visit the bank within 30 days after the message is sent, the bank card will be temporarily blocked. Activation of the bank card will be carried out after visiting the bank and re-registration.

Re-registration is carried out through a special mobile application in 75 branches and 547 service centers of Amonatbonk.

For registration, it is necessary to visit any bank branch with a passport and card. The application records the client’s card data and mobile phone number, and a photo of the card, passport, and a selfie of the client with the passport is taken.

“Regardless of which district they are in and in which branch they received the card, clients can visit any branch or banking service center and re-register it,” the bank stated.

Amonatbonk stated that for the registration of individuals with disabilities and those who cannot visit the bank in person, staff will “come to the client’s residence at a convenient time for them and conduct the re-registration.”

Is it possible to register by proxy?

In response to the question from Asia-Plus about the possibility of re-registering a card by proxy, the bank replied that “it is possible.”

“Based on a power of attorney, clients abroad are also provided the opportunity for re-registration until they return to the country, and upon return, they can complete the procedure,” Amonatbonk stated.

However, we did not receive a specific answer to the question about the possibility of online re-registration. Residents emphasize that such an opportunity does not exist. Our check also confirmed that it is impossible to re-register a card online.

The bank noted that one of the main goals of this initiative is to ensure that “bank cards are used only by their owners, and transactions are conducted in accordance with the requirements of current legislation,” and for this, the personal presence of the client during the re-registration process is important.

It should be noted that in Tajikistan, the salaries of most budget sector employees, pensions, and scholarships are credited to “Amonatbank” cards. According to bank employees, its clients use more than 2 million bank cards.
