IRP leader meets with Tatarstan mufti in Kazan

DUSHANBE, November 28, 2013, Asia-Plus — On Wednesday November 27, Tajikistan’s Islamic Revival Party (IRP) leader Muhiddin Kabiri met in Kazan, the capital of Russia’s Tatarstan Republic with Kamil hazrat Samgullin, Mufti of Tatarstan, according to IRP’s headquarters in Dushanbe.

In the course of the talks, Kabiri reportedly appreciated Samgullin’s support for solving problems facing Tajik migrant workers and educating Tajik students studying at Islamic religious schools in Tatarstan.

For his part, Tatarstan mufti highly appraised a role of Tajik Diaspora in development of mosques and dissemination of Islamic culture in Russia, the source said.

According to him, Kamil hazrat Samgullin also informed Muhididn Kabiri about his activity, electronic library and internet-radio of Tatarstan’s muftiyat.

Founded in October 1990, the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan was registered on December 4, 1991.  It was banned by the Supreme Court in June 1993 and legalized in August 1999.  Its official newspaper is

Najot

(Salvation).  According to some sources, IRP now has more than 40,000 members.  It won two seats in the 2010 parliamentary elections.  The Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan is the only Islamic party registered in CIS Central Asia.
