DUSHANBE, December 3, 2013, Asia-Plus — The board (Shuro) of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament discussed amendments proposed to the country’s law on energy at a December 3 meeting, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov.
Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says the board also discussed the bill requiring amendments to the country’s laws on the national budget for 2013.
The board members also discussed issues related to ratification a grant agreement between Tajikistan and the International Development Association (IDA) on financing the health services improvement project in Tajikistan and an additional loan agreement between Tajikistan and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) on the Water Supply Rehabilitation Project.
The grant from the IDA aims to improve maternal and child health outcomes by increasing the coverage and quality of basic primary health care services in rural health facilities of Tajikistan.
The main aim of the Water Supply Rehabilitation Project is to enable Dushanbe’s municipal waterworks (Dushanbe Vodokanal of DVK) to continue with the rehabilitation of the Dushanbe water supply system, and allow it to scale up current activities and thereby improve sustainability. The IsDB operation is focused on the reconstruction of above-ground facilities that can be clearly identified and designed, such as the pumping stations, treatment facilities, groundwater well facilities, among others.
All these issues have been tabled to the agenda of a sitting of the fifth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation that will take place on December 4, Sultonov said.
