DUSHANBE, August 25, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The gvoernment and local authorities in the prvoinces are not ready for consturctive dialogue, Rahmatillo Zoirov, leader of the Social-Democraitc Party (SDPT), announced at a press conferenc ein Dushanbe on August 25.

According to him, this conclusion is based on analysis of attitude of the authorities to the SDPT over the past five months.

“Our party has always sought constructive cooperation with the authorities and has never been in uncompromising opposition to the government,” said Zoirov, “In March this year, we stated changes in tactics and strategy of our activities and shift to constructive cooperation with the government.”

“The only direction, in which the SDPT does not make a compromise, is firmness of supremacy of law and unconditional observance of law as the country’s Constitution demands,” the SDPT leader said.

In April-August this year, the party has conducted more than 60 seminars, roundtable meetings, open discussions and meetings in all regions of the countries to discuss socioeconomic issues and ways to come out “of the present systemic crisis.”

According to him, the SDPT’s position on events in Isfara, Gorno Badakhshan, Rasht and Kulob was exclusively constructive.

The SDPT leader noted that practical experience and tendency of development of events in April-August 2008 as well as attitude of the government and local authorities, including the state committee for national security (GKNB), to the party have shown that a new round of persecution has begun against the party, its members and events held by it, especially in Gorno Badakhshan.

“The government and local authorities in the provinces are not ready for constructive cooperation, based on equal, legal and transparent foundation,” Zoirov said.
