DUSHANBE, January 28, 2014, Asia-Plus – A festival of Japanese movies will take place in Dushanbe from February 1 to February 2.
According to Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe,
Flight of Destiny

Shorty Maruko

Nabbie’s Love
, and
Swing Girls
will be shown at Javonon Cinema in Dushanbe.
The festival is organized by Japan’s Embassy in cooperation with Tajikistan’s Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs and its main objective is in promoting further strengthening of friendly relations between Tajikistan and Japan.
Nabbie”s Love
is a 1999 film written and directed by Yuji Nakae about a grandmother named Nabbie Agarikinjo, played by Tomi Taira. The film score is by Kenichiro Isoda and Michael Nyman, working separately. The film tied with Rituparno Ghosh’s
Bariwali
for the Netpac Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. Director Nakai won Best Director at the Japanese Professional Movie Awards, which also presented a Special Award to producer Shirō Sasaki. Naomi Nishida won the Hochi Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for the role of Nanako Agarikinjo. Isoda won Best Film Score at Mainichi Film Concours. Nishida also won Best Supporting Actress at the Yokohama Film Festival, and Jun Murakami (as Fukunosuke, as well as for roles in two other films) tied for Best Supporting actor with Teruyuki Kagawa.
Swing Girls
is a 2004 comedy film, co-written and directed by the Japanese filmmaker Shinobu Yaguchi, about the efforts of a group of high school girls to form a jazz band. The film ranked 8th at the Japanese box office in 2004, and won seven prizes at the 2005 Japanese Academy Awards, including ”Most Popular Film” and ”Newcomer of the Year” awards for Yuta Hiraoka and Juri Ueno. The cast includes Yuta Hiraoka (Takuo, the leader of the band), Juri Ueno (Tomoko), Shihori Kanjiya (Yoshie), Yuika Motokariva (Sekiguchi) and Yukari Toyashima (Naomi). The actors performed their own music for the film.
