DUSHANBE, January 30, 2014, Asia-Plus — Last year, Tajik state-run rail company, Tajik Railways, purchased 150 cargo cars, 15 passenger carriages, three diesel locomotives and two dinning cars, Tajik Railways head Amonullo Hukumatullo announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on January 29.
Besides, 35 cargo cars and 50 passenger carriages were reportedly repaired last year.
Tajikistan’s rolling-stock now includes 2,269 cargo cars, 441 passenger carriages and 56 diesel locomotives.
The total length of rails in Tajikistan is more than 950 kilometers; of that, 680 kilometers are the main railways. At present there are more than 30 railway stations in the republic.
At present Tajik Railways offers three routes to the Russian Federation (Dushanbe-Moscow, Kulob-Moscow, and Khujand-Saratov) and three domestic routes (Dushanbe-Khujand, Dushanbe-Pakhtaobod and Qurghon Teppa-Kulob).
