DUSHANBE, February 14, 2014, Asia-Plus — Olim Salimzoda, the head of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Committee on International Affairs, Public Associations and Information, is participating in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (PA) Winter Meeting that is being held at the Hofburg Congress Center in Vienna.

“While in Vienna, Olim Salimzoda is expected to hold a number of meetings with senior representatives of the OSCE PA to discuss issues related to strengthening of parliamentary ties in the OSCE area,” Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to the OSCE website,  the 2014 Winter Meeting that is being held on February 13-14, 2014 is concluding with special debates on “The Current Situation in Ukraine” and “The Rise of Extremism, Radicalism and Xenophobia: Challenges for the OSCE Region.”

The OSCE PA has held an annual Winter Meeting at the OSCE headquarters in Vienna since 2002, to provide an opportunity for OSCE parliamentarians to be briefed by high-level OSCE officials. The meeting also serves as an opportunity for members to hear presentations by the three committee rapporteurs and to discuss their draft reports for the upcoming Annual Session.
