DUSHANBE, March 4, 2014, Asia-Plus – Russian ambassador to Tajikistan says he hopes that people in Tajikistan understand clearly what threat confrontation that has occurred in Ukraine though Ukrainian authorities’ fault poses to Ukraine.
As a result of coercive actions, radical forces have come to power in Ukraine, Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan Igor Lyakin-Frolov told Asia-Plus in an interview, commenting on the current situation in Ukraine.
According to him, Russia hailed an agreement on a process for the settlement of the crisis in Ukraine, signed between the Ukrainian authorities and opposition President Viktor Yanukovych and opposition, on February 21.
“We called on all forces to fulfill the plan provided for by the agreement and normalize the situation. Instead of this, the opposition has broken implementation of the agreement. Actually, coup was committed in Ukraine. Legitimacy of the self-declared “government” gives rise to serious doubt. The fact that representatives of western countries that have acted as guarantors of the implementation of the agreement have taken up the position of connivance at radical forces arouses regret,” Lyakin-Frolov said.
“The current situation in Ukraine, attempts to shut down media sources that try to cover what is going in Ukraine in an objective way and the facts of violation of human rights – persecutions on religious, political or ethnic grounds — cannot but disturb Russia,” Russian diplomat noted.
“This wave of violence and lawlessness is being spread to southeast of Ukraine and Crimea, where primarily Russian-speaking population lives. People there face threat of being deprived of the right to native language and culture. The Government Crimea has appealed to Russia for help. Under this situation, we are forced to take appropriate measures to help Russian nationals and our fellow-countrymen in Crimea in the case of necessity. We cannot leave Russian people in trouble,” Lyakin-Frolov stated.
He noted that Russia was interested in stable and strong Ukraine, “in which legal rights and interests of Ukrainians, our fellow-countrymen and all citizens are provided.”
Russian diplomat further expressed confidence that people in Tajikistan understand clearly what threat confrontation that has occurred in Ukraine though Ukrainian authorities’ fault poses to Ukraine.
