DUSHANBE, March 13, 2014, Asia-Plus – Presentation of a solar power plant worked out by Tajik researchers has taken place at the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan in Dushanbe.

Leading researcher of the Center for Innovative Development of Science and New Technologies, Malik Soliyev gave a presentation of the plant.

According to him, this solar power plant was worked out by Tajik researchers within the framework of the Solar House project.

“Component parts for this plant were delivered from different countries and adapted to it with regard to local weather conditions,” said Soliyev, “The charge controller for this solar power plant has been worked out by Tajik researchers and adapted to our conditions.”

The solar power plant developers say the current cost of the plant is little more than 400 USD, but if the industrial production is set up, the cost of the plant will drop to 250-300 USD.

Solar power plant is based on the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP).  Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics converts light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.  The largest photovoltaic power plant in the world is the 250 MW Agua Caliente Solar Project in Arizona.

Concentrated solar power plants first appeared in the 1980s and now, the 354 MW Solar Energy Generating Systems (SEGS) CSP installation is the largest solar power plant in the world and is located in the Mojave Desert, California.
