DUSHANBE, March 13, 2014, Asia-Plus – On Wednesday March 12, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov met with Mr. William Josef Burns, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, in Washington.
According to the Tajik MFA information department, the two discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States in the security and military-political fields, assistance for strengthening of Tajikistan’s southern border management and improvement of capacities of Tajik law enforcement agencies.
Aslov and Burns reportedly also exchanged views on a number of regional projects.
On the same day, Aslov met with Ms. Nisha Desai Biswal, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs in the United States Department of State.
The sides reportedly discussed the agenda of bilateral political consultations that are expected to take place in Dushanbe in April this year.
They pointed to the necessity of expanding bilateral cooperation in agrarian, energy and communications sectors and underlined the importance of providing food security and strengthening border management, the Tajik MFA information department said.
Aslov and Biswal also exchanged views on joint actions to strengthen peace and stability in Afghanistan and support economic reconstruction of this country.
