Rahmonov familiarizes himself with Egypt’s achievements in energy and tourism

DUSHANBE, February 8, Asia-Plus — On Wednesday February 7, President Emomali Rahmonov visited Egyptian southern cities of Aswan and Luksor.

According to Abdufattoh Sharipov, a spokesman for the Tajik president, the main purpose of the visit was for Rahmonov to familiarize himself with achievements of Egypt in the fields of hydropower and tourism.

In the course of the talks with governor of the Aswan province Rahmonov discussed issues related to strategic economic significance of the Aswan hydroelectric power station (HPS) as well as prospects of establishment and development of direct ties between regions of the two countries, Sharipov said.   The Aswan governor supported President Rahmonov’s proposal to declare Tajikistan’s Norak and Egypt’s Aswan sister cities, according to him.

During his stay in Egypt, Rahmonov also visited Cairo Central Museum, the Aswan Memorial Complex and famous Egyptian Pyramids as well as cultural relics in Luksor.

Yesterday evening, President Rahmonov left Egypt for Syria.
