DUSHANBE, June 20, 2014, Asia-Plus — Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov heading the government delegation participated in the 41st Session of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states that was held in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from June 18-19.
The OIC foreign ministers received a detailed report, presented by the OIC Secretary General, Mr. Iyad Ameen Madani, in which he reviewed the situation in the Muslim world and the most salient developments in the Middle East.
According to the Tajik MFA information department, Aslov on June 19 delivered a speech at the OIC’s session on Tajikistan’s position on a number of important issues of the Muslim world, including the Palestine problem, divergence of views within one religion, establishment of the Center for Dialogue among Islamic Schools, the OIC resolutions on humanitarian, economic, science, cultural and social affairs.
Tajik minister also noted that rational use of water and energy resources was one of significant directions of cooperation in the Central Asian region.
On the sidelines of the session, Aslov reportedly held a number of bilateral meetings in Jeddah. He, in particular, held talks with foreign ministers of Oman, Bangladesh, Mauritania, as well as director-general of the Omani Foreign Ministry and representative of Azerbaijan.
Aslov also met with the Secretary-General of the OIC Iyad Ameen Madani, the President of the Islamic Development Bank Ahmad Mohamed Ali Al-Madani to discuss cooperation issues.
According to information posted on OIC’s website, the ministerial conference that was held under the theme “Exploring Areas of Islamic Cooperation” witnessed the transfer of the Council’s chairmanship from the Republic of Guinea to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is an international organization consisting of 57 member states. The organization attempts to be the collective voice of the Muslim world (Ummah) and attempts to safeguard the interests and ensure the progress and well-being of Muslims.
The OIC has a permanent delegation to the United Nations, and is the largest international organization outside of the United Nations.
