KHUJAND, July 16, 2014, Asia-Plus — 132 new cases of HIV infection have been registered in the northern province of Sughd over the first six months of this year, bringing a total number of HIV sufferers in Sughd to 1,194, Sobir Sobirov, the head of the Sughd health directorate, told reporters in Khujand on July 15.
Of those newly revealed HIV sufferers, 73 are men, 59 are women and 15 children, Sobirov noted.
The first case of HIV infection was registered in northern Tajikistan in 2001 and 287 HIV sufferers have died in Sughd over the past thirteen years.
