DUSHANBE, September 11, 2014, Asia-Plus – Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev arrived in Dushanbe today afternoon for participating in a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Nursultan Nazarbayev is expected to hold talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today evening.
According to the Tajik MFA, mining, non-ferrous metallurgy, agriculture, transportation and light industry are priories of economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.
Open Joint-Stock Company OJSC Kazakh-Tajik Joint Investment Fund was officially opened in Dushanbe on February 9, 2011.
The heads of state of Tajikistan and Kazakhstan signed an investment deal in Dushanbe in September 2007 during Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s official visit to Tajikistan. The sides agreed to set up a joint investment fund of 100 million U.S. dollars that will be used to invest in projects in Tajikistan. Under the agreement, Kazakhstan provides 80 percent of the money for the fund.
The fund reportedly gives priority to the economic areas that are of interest of both countries: electric power generation, agriculture, the mining industry and other important spheres of the economy.
A two-way trade between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan is developing dynamically. Tajikistan’s exports to Kazakhstan include cotton fiber, primary aluminum, fruit and vegetable products, and textile fabrics.
Tajikistan’s imports from Kazakhstan include grain, wheat flour, fuels, inorganic chemistry products, and rolled metals.
