DUSHANBE, September 25, 2014, Asia-Plus – Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev will arrive in Dushanbe on an official two-day visit tomorrow, according to the Tajik MFA information department. 

While in Tajikistan, Ilham Aliyev will hold talks with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon and a number of other high-ranking Tajik state officials to discuss bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.

A number of cooperation documents are expected will be signed during Aliyev’s visit to Tajikistan.  According to some sources, ten draft cooperation agreements have been prepared.

According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, trade between Tajikistan and Azerbaijan in January-June 2014 has valued at more than 11 million U.S. dollars.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s imports from Azerbaijan only.  Tajikistan imports mainly oil products from Azerbaijan.  

Ilham Heydar oglu Aliyev (born December 24, 1961) is the fourth and current President of Azerbaijan, since 2003.  He also functions as the Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party and the head of the National Olympic Committee.  Apart from his native Azerbaijani, he speaks English, French, Russian, and Turkish.  Ilham Aliyev is the son of Heydar Aliyev, who was Azerbaijan”s president from 1993 to 2003.
