DUSHANBE, July 8, 2008, Asia-Plus  — On July 5, Muhiddin Kabiri, the leader of the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) also member of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), returned from a trip to Khatlon’s Shuroobod and Khovaling districts, where he got acquainted with activities of the IRPT organizations in the district and met with local populations.

According to Hikmatullo Sayfullozoda, a spokesman for the IRPT, the meeting focused on the most topical problems raised by the local population, including distribution of lands in the districts and social protection of persons who had became disabled during the civil war.

Local people also wanted to know more about the Salafi sect, but the party leader refrained from commenting on this delicate issue, the spokesman said.

This time, there were no any excesses between the IRPT and the district administrators,” noted Sayfullozoda.  “Moreover, the Shuroobod chairman received our party leader himself.”

He further added that the IRPT leader will visit the Sughd province on July 11-20.  “On July 11, Kabiri will meet with population of the Ayni district, on July 12, he will hold meetings in the Kuhistoni Mastchoh district, and on July 13, the party leader will meet with residents of Panjakent,” said the spokesman.  “The last leg of his tour of northern Tajikistan will be the city of Khujand on July 20.”
