DUSHANBE, October 24, 3014, Asia-Plus – On Thursday October 23, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov met here with Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and the World health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Europe Zsuzsanna Jakab.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the sides discussed a broad range of issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and the World Health Organization.

The WHO regional director reportedly highly appraised Tajikistan’s efforts to enhance the health sector and expand cooperation with the WHO. 

Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark became Patron of the WHO Regional Office for Europe in 2005.  Since then she has been active in raising awareness of public health issues through, for example, keynote addresses at major WHO events, visits to countries, public statements and articles.

WHO is the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations system. It is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends
