KHUJAND, June 26, 2008, Asia-Plus – Customs officers at the Khujand airport have stopped an attempt of smuggling more than one kilogram of heroin into Russia, according to the Sughd customs service.
An inspection of passengers on the Khujand-Novosibirsk (Russia) flight on June 25 found drug narcotic in the luggage belonging to the 46-year-old resident of Khujand, Aziz Ghaniyev. Narcotic drug hidden in a package of groundnuts was tested positive to heroin weighing 1.161 kilograms.
The Sughd transportation prosecutor’s office has instituted criminal proceedings against Aziz Ghaniyev on drug-trafficking charges and an investigation is under way.
