DUSHANBE, June 24, Asia-Plus — 50 heavy trucks loaded with food products, clothes, wheelchairs and other relief supplies departed Dushanbe for Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (Gorno Badakhshan or GBAO) Monday morning.
According to presidential press service, by president’s order humanitarian aid is provided to Gorno Badakhshan on the occasion of a National unity and Accord Day, which is marked on June 27.
The aid is intended for 5,000 vulnerable families in the region and they will receive 50 kilograms of flour, 20 kilograms of rice, 20 kilograms of sugar, 10 kilograms of vegetable oil and 10 kilograms of macaroni each.
Besides, 100 wheelchairs were sent to Gorno Badakhshan and all disabled people in the region will be now provided with wheelchairs.
Clothes are intended for 650 pupils in 18 boarding schools and other social facilities in Gorno Badakhshan.
A total amount of the humanitarian aid is 2.175 million somonis and funds for providing the aid have been allocated from the Public Charitable Fund and Presidential Reserve Fund, the press service said.
From 1995 to the first quarter of this year, 160 million somonis were provided from the national budget to the GBAO regional budget. The budget for 2008 provides for 41 million somonis in subventions to cover deficit of the GABO regional budget.
