KHUJAND, June 24, 2008, Asia-Plus — Farm produce fairs will be held in the northern Sughd province on June 25.
Farmers participating at fairs will offer their precuts at prices 20 percent lower than the current prices on markets in northern Tajikistan. Saydullokhon Atoyev, the head of the Sughd agriculture directorate, said in an interview with Asia-Plus. According to him, the fairs will b held in the districts of Bobojonghafurov, Jabborrasulov, Spitamen, Ghonchi, Mastchoh, Asht, Shahriston, and Zafarobod as well as the cities of Khujand, Konibodom, Isfara, Taboshar, Qairoqqum, and Khujand.
“In all, they will offer 269 tons of farm produce, including vegetable oil, rice, potatoes, wheat, meat, onions and sugar,” Atoyev said, adding that each buyer will be able to purchase not more than 2 kilograms of vegetable oil and sugar, 10 kilograms of wheat and potatoes, five kilograms of rice and one kilogram of meat.
