DUSHANBE, February 22, 2015, Asia-Plus — The Social-Democratic Party of Tajikistan (SDP) complaints about illegal acts of officers of the Interior Ministry and the State Committee for National Security (SCNS).

A statement released by the SDP on February 21, in particular, notes that special groups have been set up to destroy pre-election agitation posters of opposition political parties across the country.

According to the statement, the SDP activists on February 18 detained a group of teenagers, aged 17 to 19, who were engaged in tearing away agitation posters in Dushanbe.

“On February 20, two police officers and one representative of the SCNS were engaged in tearing away agitation posters in the Shahritous district,” the statement says.

SDP leader Rahmatillo Zoyirov noted that cases of destroying agitation posters were observed in other cities and districts of the country as well.  Agitation posters of not only the SDP but also of other political parties have been destroyed, Zoyirov said.

SDP leader considers that those acts have been organized deliberately.

Founded in 2002, the Social-Democratic Party was registered on December 20, 2002.  It was originally registered as the Party of Justice and Development on February 5, 1999.  Tajikistan”s Ministry of Justice requested the same year that the Supreme Court ban the party”s activities and its registration was canceled.  The party re-emerged and was registered under the name of the Social-Democratic Party in late 2002.  Chairman of the Social-Democratic Party is Rahmatillo Zoyirov and the party reportedly has more than 8,000 members.
