DUSHANBE, February 23, 2015, Asia-Plus — The FAO UN in Tajikistan has organized a training session for veterinary specialists on the application of ultrasound and X-ray diagnosis of diseases and pregnancy status in animals for the first time in the country.

A three-day training session on diagnostic ultrasound in animals was conducted by the Association of Veterinarians of Tajikistan in Dushanbe on February 20-22 in the framework of the project, Strengthen Veterinary Education to Enhance Meeting Farmers and Other Stakeholders Needs.

A total of 15 veterinarians were trained in two parts: theoretical and practical.  Upon completion of the training session, each participant received a certificate of participation and handout materials.

The training was reportedly a continuation of training sessions conducted under the project in order to improve education process and to introduce modern teaching methods.

Previous training sessions were delivered on facilitation, interactive teaching methods and IT for teachers of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Tajik Agrarian University (TAU) named after Shirinsho Shotemur.  The faculty was provided with modern clinical and laboratory equipment including portable ultrasound and X-ray machines to improve education process.

It is expected that ultrasound machines will be widely used by state and private veterinary clinics in the near future. Application of ultrasound technology significantly aids the accuracy for diagnosis of internal diseases, pregnancy in its early stages and other diseases like broken bones.
