DUSHANBE, April 13, 2015, Asia-Plus – On Sunday April 12, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, who is currently on an official visit to South Korea, held talks with Korean President Park Geun-hye in Daegu to discuss cooperation between their countries.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, the sides discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and South Korea.
They reportedly expressed satisfaction with expansion of cooperation between the countries in recent years.
It was, in particular, noted that a two-way trade between Tajikistan and South Korea has increased seven times over the past decade.
Sixteen Tajik-Korean joint ventures now operate in Tajikistan.
They, however, noted that there is still considerable room for expansion of economic ties between the two countries, the Tajik president’s website noted.
Sectors like industry, energy, mining, agriculture, transportation, telecommunications, health and labor migration were reportedly outlined as areas of which could drive the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and South Korea.
Meanwhile, Korean news agency Yonhap reports Park expressed hope that the two countries will strengthen economic and other cooperation following the opening of a Tajikistani Embassy in Seoul Monday.
Rahmon said he expects his visit to contribute to the development of friendly and mutually beneficial ties between their countries, according to Yonhap.
