DUSHANBE, May 28, Asia-Plus — A regional conference formally titled “Problems of Climate Change, Management of Water Resources and Development of Central Asia’s Potential” opened in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan today, according to the Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Resources (MLRMR).
The source at a MLRWR said that the conference that has brought together representatives of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan is being held in several plenary sessions. The conference participants are discussing issues related to climate change problems and its impact on water resources in the region. Tajikistan is represented at the conference by Land Reclamation and Water Resources Minister Said Yoqubzod.
“Representatives of Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran and Turkey that have been invited to attend the conference are presenting their materials,” the MLRWR source said, noting that the conference is dedicated to the Fifth Water Forum, which will be held in Istanbul, Turkey in 2009.
