Mudslides cause serious damage to Qubodiyon and Jilikul districts, says CES spokesman

DUSHANBE, May 12, 2015, Asia-Plus — Torrential rain on May 11-12 caused a number of mudslides that damaged Qubodiyon and Jilikul districts in Khatlon province, Orif Nozimov, a spokesman for the Committee on Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of Tajikistan (CES), told Asia-Plus in an interview.

“In the Jilikul district, mudslides partially damaged 23 houses and four schools,” said Nozimov, “Besides, the mudslide that affected the village of Kuhdoman completely destroyed a bridge.”

In the Qubodiyon district, mudslides reportedly damaged more than 300 hectares of farmlands

Fortunately, no injured was reported, according to the CES spokesman.

“Currently, the CES commission is in Khatlon to assess the actual damage caused by mudslides to the province,” Nozimov noted.
