KHUJAND, May 13, 2015, Asia-Plus — Israeli Ambassador to Tajikistan (with residence in Tashkent, Uzbekistan), Ms. Karmela Shamir, yesterday visited the Tajik northern province of Sughd.

In Khujand, she reportedly held talks with Sughd governor Abdurahmon Qodiri to discuss cooperation issues.

According to the Sughd regional administration, Qodiri outlined agriculture as the priority sector of cooperation.

The governor, in particular, noted that use of Israeli advanced agricultural technologies could promote enhancement of the agrarian sector in the province.

While in Sughd, Ambassador Shamir visited the Sughd Free Economic Zone (FEZ Sughd), the site for construction of a new modern city Saihun in the Bobojonghafourov district and the Tajik-Vietnamese joint venture, VT-Silk, which is based in Khujand.
