DUSHANBE, May 27, 2015, Asia-Plus – On Tuesday May 26, U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan Susan M. Elliott officiated the opening ceremony for the newly renovated third floor of Secondary School #39 in the Isfara District of Sughd Province.

According to the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe, the Embassy has collaborated closely with Isfara district leaders to renovate Secondary School #39 since 2011 in order to provide improved education opportunities to children.

The renovated third floor is an integral part of increasing capacity at Secondary School #39.  This renovation allows students to attend classes in high quality facilities and serves as an additional example of the enduring partnership between the United States and the people of Tajikistan.

Secondary School #39 serves 642 students, contains 30 classrooms and the renovated portion is fully furnished with new desks and chalkboards. Funding for the project was provided by the U.S. Embassy’s Civil Affairs Team, which provides development assistance in both the health and education sectors.

Since 1992, the American people have provided more than $1 billion in programs and humanitarian aid in support of Tajikistan’s democratic institutions, health care, education, and economic growth.
