KHUJAND, June 25, 2015, Asia-Plus — A session of the Qayroqqum legislature (Majlis) took place on June 25.
An official source at the Qayroqqum mayor’s office says the local council members considered the issue of renaming Qayroqqum Orienkant alongside other issues.
The local council members unanimously supported the proposal to rename the city, the source added.
Qayroqqum is a city in Sughd province. It is located at the western tip of the Qayroqqum Reservoir. Qayroqqum is a city of provincial subordination, administratively subordinated to the provincial capital of Khujand.
As of January 1, 2014, the population of Qayroqqum is estimated at 42,300 for the city with the outlying communities.
