DUSHANBE, September 29, 2015, Asia-Plus — A joint signing ceremony for three new GGP projects was held at Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe on September 28.
The contracts were signed between Mr. Takashi Kamada, Japan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan, and representatives of the three beneficiary organizations.
According to Japan’s Embassy, the three new projects, funded fully within the framework of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), are:
“The Project for Provision of Agricultural and Road Maintenance Machinery in Vanj District” signed with Mrs. Davlatbibi Rajabova, Chairperson of the Vanj District in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), for the amount of US$ 90,095.
“The Project for Improvement of Irrigation Canal in Midenshor and Khosa Villages, Porshinev Jamoat, Shugnan District” signed with Mr. Aziz Giyoyev, Chairperson of the Shugnan District in Gorno Badakhshan, for the amount of US$ 90,110.
“The Project for Refurbishment of Roads in Khichikh and Sindev Villages in Roshtqala District” signed with Mr. Yusuf Sultonnoyobov, Chairperson of the Roshtqala District in Gorno Badakhshan, for the amount of US$ 90,203.
During the ceremony, Mr. Kamada reportedly spoke of the relationship between Japan and Tajikistan and wished that GGP projects will further improve Tajik people’s quality of life in these rural areas of the GBAO region.
Mr. Kamada also mentioned about Japan’s future support for the people of Shugnan district who suffered from flooding caused by a rapid melting of snow and glaciers in the summer of 2015.
The beneficiary organizations expressed their commitment in successfully completing these projects, which upon completion will benefit the residents of local communities.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. As of today, GGP has supported 346 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 28 million has been provided since 1996.
