DUSHANBE, May 23, 2016, Asia-Plus – Two natives of Tajikistan have been detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of recruiting fighters for the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in Syria.
The press service of the Investigative Committee”s Directorate in St. Petersburg said on May 20 that the suspects had been detained after police found religious literature and other materials that might carry extremist content.
The two suspects were reportedly recruiting fighters for the IS terrorist group.
An investigation is under way and the suspects are expected to be charged with “support of terrorism” (Article 205 (1) of Russia’s Penal Code).
