DUSHANBE, January 29, Asia-Plus  — The Yovon heat and power plant may be suspended from operation for uncertain period in early February, Sharifkhon Samiyev, the head of Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding, announced at a press conference in Dushanbe  on Monday.

According to him, this measure seeks to curb is the rising natural gas and fuel oil consumption.  “Because of cold weather the Dushanbe and Yovon heat and power plants have increased consumption of natural oil and fuel oil, and therefore, to ensure regular work of the Dushanbe heat and power plant we may to suspend the Yovon plant from operation in the coming two days,” the Barqi Tojik top manager said.

According to him, the Yovon heat and power plant now generates electricity at the rate of 500,000 kWh per day, which is only 30%-40% of its planned capacity

The present supply of the Dushanbe heat and power plant is 14,000 tons and it is sufficient keep the plant operational until February 12, the Barqi Tojik head said.

As far as natural gas is concerned, the plant now receives natural gas at the rate of 10,000 cubic meters day.

We will recall that in accordance with an agreement between Barqi Tojik and Tojikgaz (Tajik state natural-gas distributor), Tojikgaz should supply natural gas to the Dushanbe heat and power plant at the rate of 50,000 cubic meters per day, but Tojikgaz has reduced natural-gas supplies to the plant over debt.

Speaking to journalists, Samiyev noted that the holding would pay off the debt to Tojikgaz within the next few days.
