DUSHANBE, January 29, Asia-Plus  – President Emomali Rahmon yesterday had a telephone conversation with his Turkmen counterpart, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, to discuss cooperation issues, presidential press service said.

Cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan in the field of energy was focus of their talks. 

Rahmon, in particular, asked Berdymukhamedov for increasing electricity supplies to Tajikistan.

For his part, the Turkmen head of state assured that he would order to increase the volume of Turkmen electrical power supplied to Tajikistan as far as possible, the Tajik presidential press service said.

The same day, Emomali Rahmon had a telephone conversation with Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev. 

The two discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.  

Rahmon briefed his Kazakh counterpart on an official beginning of functioning of the branch of Kazakhstan’s Kazkomertsbank in Tajikistan and expressed hope that it would promote expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries.  

In the course of the talks Nazarbayev invited Rahmon to pay an official visit to Kazakhstan.
